Designed by architect Richard Martinet at the head of the agency affine design, the five Pavilions Monte-Carlo house twenty-one luxury boutiques in the centre of Monaco. This construction is consecutive to major work in two historic buildings bordering the place du Casino where these prestigious brands were previously established: the Hôtel de Paris (1864), now restored and embellished by Richard Martinet, and the Sporting d’Hiver (1931), an art deco building which will house a luxury Casino de Monte Carlo. In 2011 MZA was appointed by the Societé des Bains de Mers for the renovation of the Casino de Monte Carlo. Our task was to detail and specify the works to be carried out for the renovation of the floors, walls and mouldings, gold leaf work frescos and stained glass. The Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco is one of Europe’s most prestigious casinos and may look familiar to 007 fans! The building’s Belle Epoque architecture was inspired by the fashionable Bad Homburg casino in Hesse, Germany. The casino was designed by a Parisian architect, Gobineau de la Bretonnerie, who also designed the neighbouring Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo. Construction began on 13 May 1858 and the project was completed in 1863.
